Taunton High School Welcomes Dr. John M. Harrison as New Principal

TAUNTON -  Superintendent John J. Cabral is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. John M. Harrison as the new principal, effective July 1. Dr. Harrison brings a wealth of experience and a strong track record of educational leadership, making him a valuable addition to the Taunton community.


Dr. Harrison joins THS from Rockland High School, where he has served as principal since 2016. During his tenure, Dr. Harrison demonstrated exceptional leadership in curriculum development, student support initiatives, and community engagement. Under his guidance, Rockland High School expanded its advanced curriculum offerings, introduced new support programs for at-risk students, and strengthened community relations through innovative programs and events.


Dr. Harrison's leadership improved Massachusetts Comprehensive Assessment System (MCAS) scores and attendance rates, particularly in the post-pandemic period. His focus on enhancing the school climate played a crucial role in these achievements, fostering a positive and inclusive environment that encouraged student engagement and academic success.


Prior to serving as principal for the past eight years, Dr. Harrison worked as a high school math teacher for five years at Reading Memorial High School and as assistant principal for four years at Dighton-Rehoboth Regional High School.


Dr. Harrison's educational background is equally impressive. He holds a doctorate in education from Northeastern University, a Master of Science in accounting from Babson College, and a Bachelor of Science in business management from Babson College, where he graduated magna cum laude and was honored as the student commencement speaker.


Throughout his career, Dr. Harrison has been committed to fostering a positive and inclusive school environment. He has led professional development programs for teachers, focusing on social and emotional learning, equity and inclusion, and innovative teaching strategies. His efforts have improved academic outcomes and created a supportive and collaborative atmosphere for students and staff alike.

"My goal is to inspire and lead the THS community to ensure that all students feel safe, supported, and prepared for their future endeavors. I look forward to building on the strong foundation already in place, strengthening the partnership with the Barr Foundation and working together to achieve new heights."


Superintendent Cabral expressed confidence in Dr. Harrison's ability to lead Taunton High School, stating, "Dr. Harrison's extensive experience and proven leadership in education make him the ideal candidate to guide THS. His commitment to student success and his innovative approach to education will benefit our entire school community. I’d like to thank the members of the screening committee, including administrators, teachers, parents, students and School Committee members for their time and diligence.”


In his free time, Dr. Harrison enjoys spending time with his wife, Larissa, and three children, Peyton, 6, Elias, 3, and Connor, 9 months.  Dr. Harrison enjoys cooking and cheering on the local Boston sports teams.
