HOMEWORK POLICYHomework is defined as tasks assigned to students that are to be completed during non-instructional and/or non-school hours. Because education is a lifelong process that extends beyond the school, it is important that students recognize that learning occurs in the home and community. Homework is one means of teaching the necessary skills of independent study and learning outside the school. The Taunton Public Schools' definition of homework is very broad to include not only written work, but also related activities such as review of class notes, textbook readings, long term assignment(s), news reporting, recreational reading, and other activities that are related to classroom work.
Homework counts for approximately 5% of a student's overall grade.
Extra Help and Make-up SchedulesMath teachers schedule extra help and make-up after school a minimum of two forty-minute sessions each week. A calendar of dates is posted outside each math classroom. In addition, teachers announce the weekly schedule. In the event that a meeting conflicts with one of these sessions, the teacher will reschedule to another day when feasible. Students are encouraged to come for extra help. No sign-up is required. Sessions begin at 2:00 PM. ![]() CALCULATOR POLICYCalculators will be allowed for concept development and/or enrichment. Students will be encouraged to calculate by hand in order to promote their computation skills, especially for honors and A Level classes. Calculators will not be allowed on purely computational activities and tests. Students using calculators are expected to still show work on paper to communicate the thought-process involved with the calculations. Scientific calculators and/or graphing calculators will be provided during lessons for each student as needed.
