Welcome to the THS Science Department!
In the THS Science Department we are committed to developing life-long, reflective, confident problem solvers through student centered classrooms. Our core belief is that every student can grow to be a capable scholar through challenging, creative, and culturally responsive learning opportunities. This vision can only be obtained with a commitment to professional development where teachers develop a rich understanding of the content and through reflection, serve in the role of facilitators of learning for students. Students will be able to persevere through purposeful collaboration, making connections between concrete and abstract thinking, and by fluently navigating a variety of standards and practices. Student assessment is an essential part of the learning process; with differentiated formative assessments integrated directly into the curriculum. Establishing equity in student voice is central in framing our curriculum around students’ prior knowledge and cultural backgrounds. Students will be curious about the world around them and confident that the knowledge and skills they have gained in science to question, investigate, and solve problems.
